I decided to work with Andrea as a last resort really. I know that sounds awful, and in hindsight I wish I had done it sooner.
I had been diagnosed with Type2 Diabetes 2 years ago. I spent the first year in denial and the second year worrying about it but not really knowing what to do about it. I read lots of books and got advice from my GP, but I just got confused with all the conflicting advice. I really didn’t want to go on the medication that my GP wanted.
It was when I went to my local diabetes counselling group and they served us sandwiches and cake that I realised I needed to find a better way!
I had never done anything like speaking to a health coach before. I had no idea what to expect and I was quite sceptical. By this time my GP had made it clear that if my next blood glucose tests were not improved, he would prescribe medication as I “clearly cannot control this through lifestyle changes”.
Andrea was so positive that we could improve my health together, she is very infectious! I signed up to her 6 month program as my husband had offered to pay… as long as I stuck with it. At first, I think I was a terrible client. It took a few sessions before something really clicked for me. I think it took me that time to really trust Andrea – not because she didn’t deserve it, but because I had to get my head around things in my own time. The great thing was that Andrea was always patient and always finding ways to make things as easy as possible for me to succeed. Once I learned to trust, I was 100% in.
I told Andrea that I had my next blood test in a week’s time, and we agreed that I would look on the next week as an experiment: If I did all the things we had discussed for one week and see if the test results improved.
I surprised myself at how well I adapted to my new ways. When my test results came back, my blood sugar was back to normal, healthy levels! I was so happy that I sent a text to Andrea straight away to let her know. Before I even told my husband!
That really boosted my confidence in the health coaching and in my own abilities.
Since then, with Andrea’s knowledge, support and suggestions, I have kept my sugar levels at normal for 6 months and I have shrunk 2 dress sizes. There are so many other ways my life has improved, like having more energy and not craving cakes and biscuits. I go to a ballroom dancing class with my husband now and I would never have had the confidence or the motivation to do that before working with Andrea.
I have already recommended Andrea to many of my friends and I believe a few of them have been working with her. It’s great to think that my experience is now helping other people. Thanks Andrea!
